June 20, 2006: Nationals 3 Red Sox 1
Thursday, May 31, 2007
I don't know what's more surprising: the fact that the Nats and Sox played another low scoring, pitcher's duel type game, or the fact that the Nats came out on top again! Livan Hernandez of all people leads the Nationals to victory in a 3-1 win over the Red Sox. Hernandez is helped out by homers by Alfonso Soriano and Ryan Zimmerman. Hernandez did get into trouble in the 7th when he allowed 4 straight base runners after getting the first our, but Saul Rivera and Chad Cordero combine on the hitless relief to preserve the win.

June 19, 2006: Nationals 2 Red Sox 1
Tuesday, May 29, 2007
Well, this was quite the surprising result for game 1 of the first matchup since 2001 between the Red Sox and the team formerly known as the Expos...it ends up as a pitchers' duel between Tony Armas Jr. and Kyle Snyder, with Armas coming out on top. the Red Sox got one in the first on a Kevin Youkilis homer, but the Nats got a longball of their own in the 6th from Jose Guillen with Jose Vidro on base. It wasn't all bad for the Red Sox, as Snyder goes 7 in his Red Sox debut with 8 strikeouts and Manny Delcarmen strikes out 2 after entering the game in a one-out, bases loaded jam in the 9th.

June 18, 2006: Yankees 1 Nationals 0
A disappointing loss for the Nationals, as they get a gem of a start from Mike O'Connor but fail to score any runs off the Yankee tandem of Chien-Meng Wang and Mariano Rivera. O'Connor goes into the 7th without allowing a hit, although the Yankees score a run in the 4th after Derek Jeter walks, advances to 2nd on a passed ball, steals 3rd, and then scores on another passed ball. Unfortunately, the single run would turn out to be the only one scored in the game by either team. The Nationals next series is in Boston, making it the first time my two teams play each other since 2001 when the Expos took 2 of 3 from the Red Sox.

Well what do you know. Not only do the Nationals beat the Yankees, they make it look easy. Ramon Ortiz pitches a complete game shutout and the Nats score mutliple runs in 4 separate innings thanks to the long ball. In the 3rd, the Nats get a one out double from former Yankee Alfonso Soriano, who scores on Jose Vidro's double. Vidro then scored on Nick Johnson's homer. In the 4th, Yankees starter Shawn Chacon got 2 quick strikeouts but then A-Rod committed an error on a Marlon Byrd ground ball that would have been the third out. Next up was the pitcher, Ortiz, and he cracked a 2-run homer! The Nats also got 2 run homers from Soriano in the 7th and from Ryan Zimmerman in the 8th.

Sunday, May 27, 2007
The Red Sox resume interleague play in Atlanta, where Jon Lester looks even worse in his 2nd start than he did in his 1st start. Lester gets pulled in the 3rd and ends up allowing 7 hits and 7 runs. Julian Tavarez contributes 3 2/3 innings, but allows 3 more runs to allow the Braves to get into double digits. Ortiz and Manny both went deep in the wasted effort, and the game marks the return of Gabe Kapler in a Red Sox uniform.

June 15, 2006: Red Sox 3 Twins 2
Saturday, May 26, 2007
This one was a pitchers duel between Tim Wakefield and Carlos Silva. The Sox were down 2-1 going into the 9th, but a Mark Loretta pinch hit single tied the game after Alex Cora reached on a 2-base error by Torii Hunter. The Sox then loaded the bases on successive singles in the 10th, and Trot Nixon knocked in what would be the winning run on a sacrifice fly. Seanez gets the win, while Papelbon earns his 12th save.

One run was the difference at RFK STADIUM as the Colorado Rockies defeated the
Washington Nationals 6 to 5.
Colorado came up with 5 runs in the 6th inning when they had 5 base hits. The
critical plate appearance was by Jamey Carroll who quieted the crowd when he
smacked a single bringing in two baserunners. Colorado rapped out 10 hits
for the night.
Byung-Hyun Kim(1-6) got credit for the victory, pitching 5 innings and
allowing 3 runs. Kim got relief help from Brian Fuentes who gained credit for
his 20th save. Tony Armas Jr(3-5) was tagged with the loss.

June 8, 2006: Phillies 3 Nationals 1
This was a bizarre game. Based on Eude Brito's stats it looks like he sucks, yet he went 6 innings without allowing a hit to the Nationals. This proves that while Eude Brito sucks, the Nationals REALLY suck. Of course, the 7 walks put him up over 100 pitches after just 6 innings, so the Phils manager pulled him and went to the bullpen. The Nationals did manage to finally get a hit, but the Phillies went on to win 3-1.

A rare win for the Nationals. Mike O'Connor has probably been my most consistent starter, and in this one he allows no hits through the first 4 and is able to hand a 7-1 lead over to the bullpen when he leaves after 6. Alfonso Soriano has been on a bit of a tear lately, and contributes 2 homers in the win.

Alfonso Soriano blasted 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI as the Washington Nationals
topped the Colorado Rockies by a score of 8 to 1 at RFK STADIUM.
Soriano enjoyed a big evening at the plate. He bombed a two-run dinger in the
4th inning and blasted a solo shot (his 18th of the season) in the 6th
inning. Washington simply wore out the Colorado pitching staff, scoring in 6
different innings.
Mike O'Connor(4-3) went 6 innings allowing 1 run for the victory. Josh
Fogg(1-5) was the loser. He was unable to control the Washington offense and
allowed 8 hits and 3 walks in 4 innings.

Both pictures had their stuff on display as evidenced by the 21 total strikeouts between them (10 in 7 IP for Schilling, 11 in 8 IP for Santana). Johan Santana mowed down 11 Boston batters as the Minnesota Twins topped the
Boston Red Sox by a score of 2 to 0 at Metrodome.
Santana(8-3) gave Minnesota a solid outing. He surrendered only 6 hits and 1
walk in 8 innings seeing his ERA drop from 3.15 to 2.90. After the 3rd
inning, neither team was able to score.
Joe Nathan gained credit for his 24th save. Curt Schilling(6-6) was the
loser. Despite the loss, he struckout 10 Minnesota batters in 7 innings.
When asked about his strikeout total for the game, Santana offered, 'The fan's
really got into it. It is fun to see them tally up the strikeout totals up
there in the stands. Fortunately, I kept them busy tonight - of course, it
would be all for naught without the 'W'.'
