October 16, 2006: Padres 7 Astros 6 (Padres lead series, 3-2)
Sunday, November 25, 2007
| Brad Lidge blows a save and allows the Padres to tie the game for the 2nd straight day, but this time the Astros lose in 12 instead of winning in 9. The Padres got 2 runs in the top of the 1st but the Astros started out hotter in this game with 4 straight hits, then after 2 outs Adam Everett came through with a 3 run homer that was the death knell for Pads starter Jake Peavy. Luke Scott made it 6-2 with a solo shot in the 3rd, then the Padres came back with runs in the top of the 4th (a Ryan Klesko pinch hit double with a runner on) and the 5th (a Mike Piazza solo HR). The 6-4 Astros lead would stand until the 9th when Lidge entered to try to save it. Lidge walked a batter between the first 2 outs, but it looked like he was going to be ok until pinch hitter Rob Bowen took him deep to left to tie the game. The Astros would get a runner to 2nd with 2 outs in both the 9th and the 11th, but it was Russell Branyan's solo homer to lead off the 12th that ended up being enough to win the game for the Padres. The series moves back to San Diego for game 6. Andy Pettitte gets the must-win assignment for the Astros against Chris Young. |
