October 15, 2006: Astros 10 Padres 8 (series tied, 2-2)

The NLCS is all tied up after the Astros get the exciting 10-8 win on a walk-off Brad Ausmus homer in the 9th. The Padres had staked out to a 5 run lead in the 1st off Astro starter Roger Clemens, who allowed 4 hits and 2 walks in just 1/3 of an inning. The Astros got one back in the bottom of the 1st on a Luke Scott RBI triple, then put up a 5 run inning of their own in the 3rd. The Astros 3rd is interesting - pinch hitter Morgan Ensberg led off the inning with a walk, then Willy Tavarez lined out. Then comes a team natural cycle: Mike Lamb singled, Lance Berkman doubled, Luke Scott tripled, and Aubrey Huff hit a home run. Berkman got an RBI, while Scott and Huff each got 2. The Astros would add another in the 5th on a Berkman solo shot and in the 7th on an Ausmus single following a Luke Scott single. (Scott finished a homer short of a cycle of his own). In the 8th, the Padres would get runners to 1st and 2nd with 2 outs, which brings in Brad Lidge for the 4 out save. Instead, Lidge walks pinch hitter Todd Walker to load the bases and then walks Dave Roberts to make it 8-6. The next batter is Brian Giles, who singles to knock in 2 runs and tie the game! Lidge would be pulled and Russ Springer would get Adrian Gonzalez to fly out to end the threat.

The Astros would get a Mike Lamb triple with 1 out in the 8th, but couldn't push him across the plate. In the 9th, Craig Biggio walks with one out, he is erased on an Adam Everett fielder's choice, Everett steals 2nd, and Ausmus clears the fences to win the game and tie the series!

The Astros will try to make it a sweep in Houston in game 5. Wandy Rodriguez will make his 1st playoff start against Jake Peavy.

Luke Scott had 4 hits and 3 RBI as the Houston Astros pulled out a win over
the San Diego Padres by a score of 10 to 8 at Minute Maid Field.

Houston had the winning rally in the 9th inning scoring 2 runs. After an out
was recorded, Craig Biggio initiated the scoring spurt when he drew a walk.
After another out, Everett stole second with some aggressive base running.
Brad Ausmus then lifted one out of the park for a two run home run (his 1st
of the season) making Houston the victor and beginning a joyous home town
celebration. Houston had 13 hits for the game and San Diego had 9.

The win went to Russ Springer(1-0) who allowed no runs in 1 and 1/3 innings.
Alan Embree(0-1) ended up with the loss in relief. He gave up 2 runs and 2
hits in 1 and 2/3 innings.
