June 19, 2006: Nationals 2 Red Sox 1
Tuesday, May 29, 2007
| Well, this was quite the surprising result for game 1 of the first matchup since 2001 between the Red Sox and the team formerly known as the Expos...it ends up as a pitchers' duel between Tony Armas Jr. and Kyle Snyder, with Armas coming out on top. the Red Sox got one in the first on a Kevin Youkilis homer, but the Nats got a longball of their own in the 6th from Jose Guillen with Jose Vidro on base. It wasn't all bad for the Red Sox, as Snyder goes 7 in his Red Sox debut with 8 strikeouts and Manny Delcarmen strikes out 2 after entering the game in a one-out, bases loaded jam in the 9th. |

At Fenway Park, the Boston faithful were treated to an intriguing pitcher's
duel. Tony Armas Jr(4-5) finally bested his Boston counterpart, Kyle
Snyder(0-1), by the score of 2 to 1.
Washington had 2 runs cross the plate in the top of the 6th inning. The big
moment was provided by Jose Guillen who silenced the crowd when he cleared
the fences for a two-run home run (his 7th of the season). Washington had 6

Armas Jr got relief help from Chad Cordero who gained credit for his 15th
save. Snyder was tagged with the loss. He surrendered 2 runs and 5 hits in
