August 18, 2006: Red Sox 3 Yankees 2

The Sox continue their pattern of remarkable comebacks and beat the Yankees 3-2 to sweep the doubleheader and extend their winning streak to 6 games. The formula was very similar to game 1 of the doubleheader: score enough runs in the 7th to tie it, then push across the winning run in the 8th. This time the Yankees had only a 2-0 lead when new Sox Eric Hinske came through with a double which knocked in 2 runs and tied the game. In game 1, Hinske had 3 RBI's in the big 6 run 7th wth a 2 run homer to start the scoring and a bases-loaded walk to push across the tying run.

In the 8th, Mark Loretta would lead off with a single, to be followed by walks issued by Ron Villone to both David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez. With the bases loaded and no outs, Kevin Youkilis hits a deep fly ball and Loretta scores from 3rd with what would end up being the winning run. Jonathan Papelbon enters for a 1-2-3 9th, his 2nd save of the day. Papelbon's 2 saves: 6 outs, 1 K, 16 pitches total.

The Red Sox now sit just 1 1/2 games back of the Yankees with 3 more games to go in this big weekend series.
