August 18, 2006: Red Sox 8 Yankees 7
Saturday, September 01, 2007
| The Red Sox take game one of a doubleheader (also game one of a 5 game series) against the division leading Yankees. The Yankees essentially gave this one away - they had a 7-1 lead going into the 7th, but the Sox bat around and tie the game with 6 runs in an inning which featured 4 walks (one intentional), 2 HBP, and 2 wild pitches. The Yankees would end up losing on the wild pitch - Coco Crisp led off the 7th with a single, then advances to 2nd and 3rd on groundouts and scored when Scott Proctor unleashed a wild pitch. Jonathan Papelbon comes in and gets the 1-2-3 9th for his 27th save. With the win, the Sox move to within 2 1/2 games of the Yankees. They also have already eclipsed the real 2006 Red Sox, who lost all 5 games of this series in what became known as the "Boston Massacre II". |
