October 15, 2006: Twins 11 Rangers 4 (Twins win series, 4-1)

The Minnesota Twins are the 2006 American League champions after a convincing 11-4 game 5 win over the Rangers. Twins starter Boof Bonser had a strong outing, lasting into the 9th before tiring. The Twins gave him 6 runs in the 1st, so the outcome of this one was never really in doubt. Rangers starter Kevin Millwood was chased from the game before the 1st inning was over thanks to 4 hits, a walk, a hit batsman, and 6 runs allowed. The death blow was a 3-run home run by Phil Nevin. The Twins would add 5 more in the 6th and enjoyed an 11-1 lead until the Rangers added 3 in the 9th on a Mark DeRosa homer. Ian Kinsler singled to attempt to extend the 1-out rally, but then Rod Barajas grounded to 2nd and the Twins infield turned the DP and started celebrating.

The Twins will await the winner of the Astros-Padres NLCS, and will start ALCS MVP Johan Santana on 7 days rest in game 1 of the World Series.

Justin Morneau blasted a homerun and had 3 RBI at Metrodome as the Minnesota
Twins beat the Texas Rangers 11 to 4.

Minnesota set the tone of the game in the first inning as they scored 6 runs
on 5 base hits. That early run support was enough for Boof Bonser(1-0) and
Minnesota. Minnesota had 13 hits overall, while Texas had 8.

The loss was charged to Kevin Millwood(1-1). By surrending 6 runs in 2/3 of
an inning his ERA jumped from 2.25 to 6.39.
