October 8, 2006: Rangers 3 Tigers 1 (Rangers win series, 3-2)

The Texas Rangers are ALCS-bound after holding off the Tigers for the 3-1 win. The Rangers got 7 solid innings out of Vicente Padilla, while Tigers starter Nate Robertson was also solid but was pulled in the 6th after walking a batter with 2 out. That is when the Rangers struck, stringing together another walk and a double to plate 2 runs off Tiger reliever Jason Grilli.

The Tigers would get a double and a single with 2 outs in the 8th, but Brandon Inge would get thrown out at the plate for the 3rd out. The Rangers added an insurance run in the 9th and Akinora Otsuka put the Tigers down 1-2-3 in the 9th.

The road team won all 5 games in this series. The Rangers will now take on the Twins in the ALCS and will have home field advantage even though the wild card Twins had 15 more wins during the regular season.

The series MVP is Vicente Padilla, who pitched 14 innings total in 2 starts and allowed just one earned run. He won both game 1 (on short rest) and game 5.
