October 5, 2006: Mets 4 Astros 1 (Mets lead series, 2-0)

The Mets become the third team to take a 2-0 series lead after another game in which the Astros offense falls flat. The Astros got out in front with a run in the 1st, but the Mets tied it up in the 2nd when David Wright hit a leadoff double that was followed by a ball off Cliff Floyd's bat that was misplayed at 2nd by Craig Biggio. The Mets would add another run in the 4th and it would prove to be all they needed.

Both veteran starters got high in the pitch count early and did not last past 5 innings. The Mets bullpen would hold off the Astros while the Astros bullpen allowed the Mets to tack on 2 more runs in the 8th. Billy Wagner would enter in the 8th, strike out the side, then allow runners to reach 1st and 2nd in the 9th before striking out Craig Biggio and Lance Berkman to end the game.

The Mets, who are without 2 of their veteran starters (Pedro Martinez and "El Duque" Orlando Hernandez) in the postseason, will go with Steve Trachsel in Houston in game 3. The Astros counter with Andy Pettitte.
