October 7, 2006: Astros 5 Mets 4 (10) (Mets lead series, 2-1)

it took 10 innings, but the Astros insure that none of the 4 division series is a sweep after their 5-4 win over the Mets.

Andy Pettitte and Steve Trachsel were rolling along in a pitcher's duel of sorts until the 7th when Aaron Heilman entered the 1-1 game for the Mets. Heilman was greeted by back to back shots by Craig Biggio and Adam Everett for the Astros. Unfortunately, the 2 run lead was not enough for the Astros since the Mets came right back in the top of the 8th with 4 straight 2-out hits following a HBP. They scored 3 runs in the inning, all on a David Wright single on which LF Luke Scott misplayed the ball. The Astros would get a one-out double in the bottom of the 8th, which would bring Mets closer Billy Wagner into the game. Wagner allowed a single to Aubrey Huff which would advance the runner to 3rd, followed by a Craig Biggio sac fly to push across the tying run.

The Mets would try to get the lead back in the 9th. Michael Tucker led off with a single, followed by a Jose Reyes fly out. Paul LoDuca singled and advanced to 2nd on the throw to 3rd to try to get Tucker. The Astros would decide to walk Carlos Beltran to load the bases, which turns out to be a smart move as Anderson Hernandez struck out for the 2nd out. Next up was David Wright who was 2 for 3 thus far in the game, and he pops out to the left side of the infield to end the inning.

The Astros would get a leadoff double in the bottom of the 9th, but could not get the runner past 3rd. The Mets would get a runner in the top of the 10th, but he would be erased by the double play. Roberto Hernandez entered the game in the bottom of the 10th for the Mets, and Lance Berkman greets him with a shot deep and far to left to give the Astros the win!

The Mets will try to win the series with Oliver Perez in game 4. The Astros will call on game 1 starter Roy Oswalt on what will be normal rest, but will require either short rest for Roger Clemens in game 5 or a start for Wandy Rodriguez, who pitched in this game.

One run was the difference at Minute Maid Field as the Houston Astros defeated
the New York (NL) Mets in 10 innings 5 to 4.

Both teams were tied at 4 runs apiece after nine innings. Houston came out
the victor in the 10th inning. Lance Berkman delivered a solo blast (his 1st

celebration by the home town fans. Houston had 10 hits for the night.

Dan Wheeler(1-0) was the winner allowing no runs in 2/3 of an inning. The loss
was charged to Roberto Hernandez(0-1) in relief. He was unable to retire a
