October 14, 2006: Rangers 5 Twins 3 (11) (Twins lead series, 3-1)
Friday, November 23, 2007
| It takes 11 innings, but the Rangers manage to avert the series sweep with the 5-3 win over the Twins. The Twins got 3 in the 6th to break a scoreless tie in this one, but the Rangers immediately set to work on the comeback. They got a solo homer from Ian Kinsler in the 7th, then 2 more in the 8th off a Gary Matthews Jr double, 2 ground outs to advance and then score Matthews, and a Carlos Lee homer to tie it. The Rangers would load the bases in the 9th off Pat Neshek, but the Twins go to Juan Rincon and he gets Mark Teixeira to fly out to end the threat. Finally in the 11th, Rod Barajas leads off with a single. Gerald Laird then grounds into a double play to kill the rally, but Matthews sparks it again with a single. Michael Young follows with a double to send Matthews to 3rd. The Twins go to Matt Guerrier to face Teixeira, but he unleashes a wild pitch to allow Matthews to score the go-ahead run! Teixeira then singles to knock in another run before Lee grounds out to end the inning. Akinora Otsuka comes in and gets 3 straight fly outs in the bottom of the 11th to seal the win. Game 5 will be a rematch of game 1 starters - Kevin Millwood vs. Boof Bonser. |
