October 11, 2006: Padres 10 Astros 0 (Padres lead series, 1-0)

The Padres put the smackdown on the Astros to take the decisive win in game one of the NLCS. The Padres started the fun early with 5 runs in the 1st inning. Astros starter Fernando Nieve got the first 2 outs of the inning but then walked Todd Walker before allowing a home run to Mike Piazza. Adrian Gonzalez then singled, followed by a Mike Cameron triple to score Gonzalez and then Russell Branyan took Nieve deep to put 2 more on the board. Nieve was pulled at this point, but it didn't matter since the Astros would fail to score a single run in the game. Piazza would make it 7-0 on a 4th inning home run off Russ Springer, while Brian Giles would make it 10-0 with a 4th inning home run off Chad Qualls.

Padres starter Jake Peavy went 7 strong innings, allowing 5 hits, no runs, no walks, and striking out 8.

Andy Pettitte will try to right the ship for the Astros in game 2 against Chris Young of the Padres.
