October 11, 2006: Twins 5 Rangers 2 (Twins lead series, 2-0)
Thursday, November 22, 2007
| The Twins are in the catbird seat in the ALCS after beating the Rangers 5-2 for the 2 games to none series lead before heading to Minnesota for 3 games. Once again, the Rangers outhit the Twins (11-7) but left too many runners on base (12 to the Twins' 3). Rangers starter Robinson Tejeda struggled in the 2nd, allowing 5 hits and 4 runs before being pulled. The big hits were a Torii Hunter 2-run homer (his 2nd in as many games) and a 2-run double by Luis Castillo. Meanwhile, Twins starter Brad Radke scattered 9 hits while only giving up 2 runs in 6 2/3 IP. Joe Nathan came in for the flawless 9th for his 2nd save in as many games. A note of recognition for Rangers reliever Josh Rupe - he entered the game in the 5th with a 4-1 deficit, allowed a Mike Cuddyer single to score the Twins' 5th run, then got the next 13 outs to finish the game without allowing another hit. The only flaw was hitting Josh Bartlett with a pitch in the 7th, but he was quickly erased when he was caught stealing 2nd. Unfortunately for Rupe, the Rangers could only manage one run while he was holding the Twins at bay. After a day off, the series resumes in Minnesota with each team's ace taking the hill in game 3: Vicente Padilla vs. Johan Santana. |
