October 10, 2006: Twins 7 Rangers 5 (Twins lead series, 1-0)
Wednesday, November 21, 2007
| The Twins fight back from a 3 run deficit and take the lead for good in a big 4-run 8th to win game 1 of the American League Championship Series. The Twins win despite being outhit by Texas, 13 to 7. The Twins were simply more efficient - they left just 3 men on base while the Rangers left 9 on. The Rangers started the 8th with Ron Mahay still on the hill, and he struck out Luis Castillo before allowing a single to Nick Punto. At this point the manager went to the closer, Akinori Otsuka. He allowed a double to Joe Mauer, then after getting Mike Cuddyer to fly out he walked Justin Morneau which was followed by a 3 run homer from Torii Hunter. This marked the end of the day for Otsuka, and though the Twins would score no more runs, it was too late. The Rangers did get big days from Michael Young (3 for 5, 2B), Carlos Lee (3 for 5, 3 2B), and Mark DeRosa (2 for 3, HR). Nick Punto had 2 triples for the Twins to go along with his 8th inning single. The Rangers will try to even up the series in game 2 with Robinson Tejeda against Brad Radke. Both got roughed up and took the loss for their team in game 3 of their respective division series. |
