April 19, 2006: Phillies 15 Nationals 10

The Nationals score double digit runs in a game for the first time this season, and yet lose the game 15-10 in a wild one at Citizens Bank Park. The Nationals outhit the Phillies, 17-13, so you figure walks were the difference...no, the Phillies pitchers issued 9 walks compared to the Nationals' 5. The difference was both execution and the ability to clear the bases with the long ball. There were 8 home runs in this game, 5 belonging to the Phillies, 3 hit by Pat Burrell on his way to 7 RBI. The Nationals left 17 men on base, including leaving the bases loaded in the 4th and the 8th. The Nationals did score 4 in the 9th but unfortunately ended up in a 2 out situation with the pitcher due up and only one bat left on the bench. Pinch hitter Brendan Harris ended up grounding out to end the game.

The hitting star for the Nats was Jose Guillen, who was 4 for 6 and hit his first homer of the season. This was a rather surprising output for Guillen, who only had 2 hits so far this season even though he had started more than half the games in right field.

Pat Burrell launched 3 homeruns and had 7 RBI as the Philadelphia Phillies
defeated the Washington Nationals by a score of 15 to 10 at Citizen's Bank
Park.

Burrell provided much of the offense. He delivered a solo blast in the 1st
inning, lost the ball over the fence for three runs in the 3rd inning, laced
a single bringing in two baserunners in the 4th inning and ripped a solo home
run (his 5th of the season) in the 5th inning. Philadelphia bats were hot in
the 4th inning when they had 7 runs on 4 hits. Due to a poorly pitched
ballgame, scoring in 7 different innings was still not enough for Washington
to come away with the victory.

The win went to Gavin Floyd(1-1) who allowed 3 runs in 5 innings. The losing
pitcher was Livan Hernandez(0-4). He served up 4 gopher balls in 3 innings.
