September 25, 2006: Nationals 3 Mets 2

The Nats continue to play spoiler, taking the final game of their 4 game series with the Mets. The Mets remain tied with the Phillies for the division lead as a result of the loss. The Nats played their usual brand of small ball in this one, scoring runs thanks to stolen bases and productive outs. It doesn't hurt either that the bullpen pitched 4 shutout innings, including Chad Cordero's 37th save. The Nats also guarantee a non-losing season by virtue of their 81st win.

Alfonso Soriano had 2 base hits at Shea Stadium as the Washington Nationals
beat the New York (NL) Mets by the count of 3 to 2.

Washington had 2 runs cross the plate in the top of the 5th inning with the
help of 3 hits. After an out was recorded, Bernie Castro began the
Washington spurt when he smacked a single. Castro was safe on a stolen base.
Felipe Lopez then lined a single resulting in a run. Washington continued
their aggressive style with another stolen base. Soriano stepped into the
box and lined a one-base hit scoring the final run of the inning. Chad
Cordero was perfect in relief and gained credit for his 37th save.

Beltran Perez(1-1) got credit for the victory, pitching 5 innings and allowing
2 runs. Tom Glavine(15-7) absorbed the loss. 'I was a little good, a little
bad and a little ugly.' said Perez, 'I was just giving us a chance to win.'
