September 24, 2006: Nationals 5 Mets 2

The Nats take game 3 of a 4 game series with the Mets, sending the Mets into a tie with the Phillies for the NL East lead with just a week left in the 2006 season. The Nats 5 runs in this one were hard earned - they were scored on a ground out, an error, 2 sac flies, and finally a single to knock in run #5. That single in the 7th belonged to Ryan Zimmerman, who extended his hitting streak to 20 games.

The Nats have a chance to play spoiler in the NL East race - after one more game in New York, they go back home for 3 against the Phillies and 3 more against the Mets. For the record, the Nats are 4-10 against the Mets this year but 8-8 against the Phils.

In a two run game the Washington Nationals got by the New York (NL) Mets by
the score of 5 to 3.

Tony Armas Jr(11-5) contributed a pedestrian performance to earn the win. He
went 5 innings allowing 5 hits and 4 walks. Washington had 9 hits for the
afternoon while New York (NL) had 6.

Armas Jr was helped out by Chad Cordero who recorded his 36th save. Steve
Trachsel(14-9) was given the loss. He pitched 6 innings and surrendered 8
hits and 2 walks.

'I just wanted to give my team a chance to win.' said Armas Jr, 'I got burned
on a couple of pitches. But we won the game, and that's all that matters.'
