The San Francisco Giants put 5 runs on the scoreboard in the 3rd inning and
nipped the Washington Nationals 6 to 5 at RFK STADIUM in a hard fought
contest.
San Francisco came up with 5 runs in the top of the 3rd inning when they had 4
base hits. The key offensive moment was provided by Barry Bonds who helped
quiet the crowd when he doubled which was good for two runs. Washington
threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.
The victory was credited to Matt Morris(6-10) who went 6 innings, allowing 3
runs. Brian Wilson recorded his 1st save. Ramon Ortiz(7-10) was given the
loss. He got hit pretty hard, allowing 8 hits and 2 walks in 4 and 1/3
innings.
Felipe Alou was in a talkative mood in the clubhouse, 'Great game! If only we
could win all of the close ones - wouldn't that be nice! Since that's not
going to happen, I think I'll savor this one for a little while.'
