September 30, 2006: Red Sox 11 Orioles 9

Manny Ramirez makes what will be his last start of 2006, and he makes it count by going 5 for 5 with 3 home runs. The Sox needed all of it too, as they hold off an Orioles rally in the 9th and come away with an 11-9 win.

Manny was not the only one who had a big offensive day. Dustin Pedroia went 3 for 5 in a sign of what he will hopefully do in 2007, Trot Nixon went 2 for 4 with a bases-clearing double in the 1st, Dougie went deep with a man aboard in the 3rd, and Carlos Pena doubled his hit total for the year with a 2 for 4 day. Tim Wakefield got the win even though he allowed 6 runs in 5 IP, and Jonathan Papelbon got 2 outs and his 40th save after Mike Timlin allowed 4 hits and 3 runs in just 1/3 of an inning.

In other AL playoff news, the AL West will come down to the last day of the season. The A's lost and the Rangers won to put them in a deadlock atop the division. The Tigers await the winner.

Designated hitter Manny Ramirez rocketed 3 homeruns and scored 4 times at
Fenway Park as the Boston Red Sox beat the dreadful Baltimore Orioles by the
count of 11 to 9.

Ramirez enjoyed a great evening at the plate. Every time he came up in the
latter innings, the crowd was on their feet cheering. He smacked a single in
the 1st inning, cracked a solo homerun in the 3rd inning, delivered a solo
blast in the 5th inning, lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' (his 42nd of the
season) in the 6th inning and slapped a one-base hit in the 8th inning.
Baltimore threatened in the 9th but Boston was able to put down the rally.

Tim Wakefield(11-8) went 5 innings allowing 6 runs for the win. Wakefield got
help from Jonathan Papelbon who earned his 40th save. Adam Loewen(5-5) took
the loss. He gave up 7 runs in 2 and 2/3 innings of work.
