| The Phillies get no-hit into the 7th inning by Mike O'Connor, then come back to tie it only to allow the Nats to take the lead again for good in the 8th. Fortunately for the Phils, the Mets lost as well so the Phils remain 1 game back going into the final weekend of the season. The Mets will go to Washington, while the Phillies go to Florida for 3 against the last-place Marlins. O'Connor was just dominant in this one. He didn't allow a hit until the 7th inning, when Shane Victorino bunted his way on with one out. Unfortunately for O'Connor, Ryan Howard would follow 2 batters later with a home run to tie the game at 2 apiece. O'Connor would be pulled for the 8th, which means he once again pitches a gem but doesn't get a win out of the deal. O'Connor had 8 starts this season in which he allowed 2 runs or less, but did not get a win. The Nats would take the lead in the bottom of the 8th when Ryan Zimmerman got hit by a pitch, stole second, and was driven in on a Jose Vidro single. Zimmerman took care of extending his hitting streak early in this one, singling to knock in the first run of the game in the 1st. The streak now stands at 24. As previously mentioned, the Phils loss keeps them one back of the Mets. The Padres won while the Astros lost, which means the Padres will host the wild card while the Astros will play the NL East winner. In the AL, the Tigers definitively clinched the AL Central with a win, and the Angels were eliminated from contention in the west. The west now comes down to the A's and Rangers, with the A's holding a 2 game lead. The A's play the Angels on the road, while the Rangers travel to Seattle for the final weekend. |

Mike O'Connor carried a no-hitter into the 7th inning as the Washington
Nationals defeated the Philadelphia Phillies by the score of 3 to 2 at RFK
STADIUM.
Jon Rauch(6-4) came on to close the door tight in relief. He did not allow a
hit or a walk in his 1 inning. The left-handed O'Connor lost his no-hit bid
when Shane Victorino singled with one out in the 7th inning. Chad Cordero
pitched a perfect ninth to earn his 38th save.
Jon Lieber(8-9) was the losing pitcher. He gave up 3 runs and 7 hits in 8
innings.
