October 4, 2006: Twins 8 Yankees 5 (series tied, 1-1)
Saturday, November 10, 2007
| The Twins come back from a 4-run deficit to even up their ALDS series against the Yankees. The Yanks looked like they were going to take a 2 games to none series lead when Hideki Matsui went deep with the bases loaded to break a 1-1 tie. Mariano Rivera would enter in the 8th with runners on 2nd and 3rd and a 4 run lead, but would allow both runners to score on a Nick Punto triple and then would allow Punto to score on a Joe Mauer single. Rivera would then walk Mike Cuddyer and be pulled from the game with the tying run on 2nd. Reliever Scott Proctor would walk Justin Morneau to load the bases, then strike out Torii Hunter but allow a single to Rondell White which would score the tying and go-ahead run. The Twins would add 2 more runs and eventually hand the 3 run lead to AL Cy Young Award winner Joe Narthan, who hit a batter and allowed a double but finally struck out Gary Sheffield to end the game. The series will move to Minnesota for game 3, where Brad Radke will oppose Randy Johnson. |

The Minnesota Twins registered 7 runs in the 8th inning and defeated the New
York (AL) Yankees by a score of 8 to 5 at Yankee Stadium.
A hugely decisive outburst by Minnesota in the top of the 8th inning quieted
any New York (AL) hopes for a victory when they exploded for 7 runs on 6
hits. The crucial at-bat was provided by Nick Punto who silenced Yankee
Stadium as he tripled plating two runs. Minnesota rapped out 10 hits for the
night.
The victory went to Dennys Reyes(1-0) who went 1 and 1/3 innings, allowing no
runs. Joe Nathan earned the save, his 1st. Mariano Rivera(0-1) took the loss
in relief.
