October 1, 2006: Nationals 6 Mets 3
Tuesday, November 06, 2007
| The Nationals end their season on a high note, beating the Mets 6-3 to sweep the series and end with an overall 5 game winning streak. 3 runs scored in the 2nd inning would be all they needed in this one. They scored those 3 runs thanks to 4 walks issued by Mets starter Oliver Perez, who was pulled with the bases loaded and Alfonso Soriano at the plate. Chad Bradford got Soriano to fly out to end the inning. One bit of bad news in this one - Ryan Zimmerman failed to get a hit, which means his streak comes to an end at 26 games. Zimmerman still reached base twice via walk and scored a run. The Nats finish the season at 86-76, a full 9 games behind the wild card winning Phillies. The Phillies lost on the season's final day and finish 1 game behind the Mets in the NL East. Coincidentally, the Nats 86 wins would have been good enough to win the AL West. Full standings, season ending awards, Nats and Sox stats and analysis after the A's-Rangers playoff game is finished. |

The Washington Nationals defeated the New York (NL) Mets by a score of 6 to 3
at RFK STADIUM.
Washington scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning. The big moment was
provided by Bernie Castro who made the home-town crowd a happy bunch when he
laced a single bringing in two baserunners. Washington banged out 9 on the
afternoon.
Ramon Ortiz(14-12) allowed 3 runs in 5 and 2/3 innings, and picked up the
victory. Ortiz got help from Chad Cordero who earned his 39th save. Oliver
