September 7, 2006: Nationals 14 Rockies 6

The Nationals get back to .500 by putting a beating on the Rockies. This one was even more lopsided than it appears, as the Rockies did not get a hit off Nats starter Jason Bergmann until the 5th inning and were down by 11 runs when they had their one big inning in the 7th. Coincidentally, the 7th was the only inning in which the Nats did NOT score.

Big days from the guys at the top of the lineup, as Alfonso Soriano goes 3 for 4 with 4 runs scored, a home run, and 3 RBI. And what of the one time that Soriano did not get on base? That's listed as a 9th inning web gem in which Soriano was robbed of homer #2. Felipe Lopez also had a big day, going 5 for 6 with 2 runs scored and 3 RBI. Ryan Church and Brian Schneider also got in on the fun with homers.

The Colorado Rockies pitchers essentially took the day off at Coors Field as
the Washington Nationals offense erupted for 14 runs while Jason
Bergmann(2-0)with help from the bullpen allowed Colorado 6 runs.

The Colorado fans didn't appreciate the big day Alfonso Soriano had. He
delivered a one-base hit in the 4th inning, popped a two-run clout over the
fence (his 35th of the season) in the 6th inning and stroked a base-hit in
the 8th inning. The Washington offense poured it on, scoring in 8 of the 9
innings.

Aaron Cook(18-6) was hit with the loss. He was not very effective,
surrendering 9 runs in 5 innings.
