September 2, 2006: Nationals 4 Diamondbacks 3 (13)

It takes 13 innings, but the Nationals get their 2nd comeback win of the day to sweep a twin bill from the DBacks. The Nats were mostly kept in check by old friend Livan Hernandez, with the Diamondbacks touching Nats starter Jason Bergmann for 3 runs. The Nats would cut the lead to a run in the 7th thanks to a Robert Fick solo homer, and would tie the game up in the 9th when pinch hitter Felipe Lopez singled with one out and then stole both 2nd and 3rd before being knocked in on a Nook Logan single. Logan would get to 3rd on a Brian Schneider pinch hit single, but Soriano and Vidro would both fail to come through and we go to extra innings.

Chad Cordero would pitch a scoreless 10th and 11th for the Nats, while Jon Rauch came in to keep the DBacks scoreless in the 12th and the 13th as well. In the bottom of the 13th Austin Kearns leads off with a double, with Rauch up. Now I had a bat left on the bench but the bullpen is thin and Rauch had only thrown 21 pitches in 2 innings thus far. So I have Rauch bunt, which works to perfection and Kearns goes to 3rd. Felipe Lopez was up next and he singles to left field, Kearns scores and the Nats now have a 6 game winning streak and are just 1 game under .500!
