September 16, 2006: Yankees 3 Red Sox 1
Thursday, October 18, 2007
| The Yankees extend their winning streak to 18 games, taking game 1 of a doubleheader from the Red Sox by a 3-1 score. The win reduces the Yanks' magic number to 6 and pushes the Red Sox back to 3rd place, 10.5 games back. The Blue Jays are a half game ahead of the Sox in 2nd. One streak did end in this game - Mark Loretta's 16 game hitting streak. The Sox managed just 3 hits in the game off the stellar pitching of Randy Johnson, who earned his 18th win, and Mariano Rivera, who got his 50th save. Although a loss is a loss regardless, this one could have been a lot worse. The Sox threw out 2 different runners at the plate in the Yankee 4th, and A-Rod struck out with the bases loaded to end the 5th. Josh Beckett gets the ball in the nightcap against Chien-Ming Wang. |
