September 12, 2006: Red Sox 10 Orioles 5

The Red Sox strike early, scoring 7 runs in the 2nd inning and going on to beat the Orioles by a 10-5 score. The scoring all came off 2 swings: a 3 run Varitek homer, and a grand salami for Big Papi. The big lead let me get some work for the extra arms in the pen, and Carlos Pena got in the game as a defensive replacement in the 8th and managed to get his first hit in a Red Sox uni in the 9th.

This is the Red Sox 7th straight win, which you would think would help them in the division race except for the fact that the Yankees are currently on a 15 game winning streak and the Blue Jays just got off an 11 game winning streak. Oh and speaking of streaks, the Cleveland Indians have the ignominity of being the team to lose to the Royals and end their 15 game losing streak.

Designated hitter David Ortiz blasted 2 homeruns as the blistering-hot Boston
Red Sox topped the reeling Baltimore Orioles by a score of 10 to 5 at Camden
Yards.

Ortiz enjoyed a great evening at the plate. He quieted the crowd by clouting
a Grand Slam in the 2nd inning and blasted a two-run home run (his 44th of
the season) in the 7th inning. Boston had a total of 10 hits for the game.

The win was credited to Kason Gabbard(2-1) who went 5 and 2/3 innings allowing
3 runs. Daniel Cabrera(11-6) was given the loss. He surrendered 5 hits and 1
walk in 1 and 2/3 innings.
