| Up 8 to 5 going into the bottom of the 9th? Those are the games you still find a way to lose when you're in the midst of a 14 game losing streak. and, that is exactly what the Royals do, as the Red Sox come through for 4 runs in the bottom of the 9th and win the game 9-8, sending the Royals to their 15th straight victory. The Royals may be having the worst 30 day span ever - since August 11th, they have won just 3 games and lost 26, a dismal .103 winning percentage. The Sox were down by as much as 4 runs in this game, but came back to within a run with 3 runs in the bottom of the 7th but then gave the Royals 2 right back in the top of the 8th. Second baseman Mark Loretta had 3 base hits at Fenway Park as the amazing
Boston Red Sox staged a comeback win over the slumping Kansas City Royals by
the count of 9 to 8.
Boston came up with the deciding runs in the bottom of the 9th inning as they
scored 4 runs on 4 base hits. The crucial at-bat was provided by Mike Lowell
who made the home-town crowd a happy bunch when he lifted one out of the park
for a two run home run (his 17th of the season). Although they lost, Kansas
City did out-hit Boston 14 to 11.
The victory went to Keith Foulke(2-0) who went 1 and 2/3 innings, allowing no
runs. Joe Nelson(3-2) was tagged with the loss in relief. He gave up 4 hits
and 2 walks in 2/3 of an inning.
Terry Francona was all smiles after the ballgame, 'It sure was looking pretty
dim there for a while, but our guys never gave up - and neither did our fans
- they kept cheering us on. What a sweet win!'
