August 8, 2006: Nationals 4 Marlins 3
Sunday, August 19, 2007
| The Nationals take game 1 in the battle for last place in the NL East. Well I guess it's actually the battle for 4th place? The Nats and Marlins entered the day tied at 23 1/2 games back of the division leading Phillies. Tony Armas Jr. had a weird day, pitching well but getting behind earrly on a 2 out, 3 run homer from Miguel Olivo. All 3 runs were unearned due to an error in the inning from Nats 2nd baseman Marlon Anderson. The Nats pulled within one of the Marlins in the 5th on a Nick Johnson solo shot, and pinch hitter Daryle Ward gave the Nats the lead in the next inning with a 2-out pinch hit 2-run home run. Jon Rauch and Chad Cordero protect the one run lead and the Nats come away with the victory, and 4th place! |

One run was the difference at RFK STADIUM as the Washington Nationals defeated
the Florida Marlins 4 to 3.
Washington tallied 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning. The key at-bat was
by Daryle Ward who made the home-town crowd a happy bunch when he bombed a
two-run dinger (his 3rd of the season). Florida made it exciting in the 9th,
but they were unable to push the needed runs across.
Tony Armas Jr(6-5) got the win allowing 3 runs in 6 innings. Chad Cordero was
credited with his 24th save. Ricky Nolasco(7-7) suffered the loss. He
allowed 9 hits and 2 walks in 6 innings.
