August 4, 2006: Red Sox 17 Devil Rays 5
Sunday, August 12, 2007
| As the play by play said during the game, "The Devil Rays can't seem to do anything right!" The Sox put a whuppin' on the Rays in a game in which the Devil Rays were bad at all aspects of baseball: aside from the 15 hits allowed, they issue 9 walks, 3 wild pitches, and commit 3 errors. Still, this game was a nail-biter as late as the 6th when the Sox had a 6-2 lead but the Devil Rays pulled within 1. Fortunately, the Sox would add 11 more runs in the last 3 innings to run away with it. The offense is led by Manny who went 3 for 4 with 2 homers and 6 RBI, and Kevin Youkilis who adjusts to the 5th spot in the lineup with a 3 for 6, 3 RBI day. |

Manny Ramirez smashed 2 homeruns and had 6 RBI as the Boston Red Sox ballclub
embarrassed the Tampa Bay Devil Rays by the count of 17 to 5.
Ramirez was really in 'the zone'. He lined a single in the 1st inning, lofted
a three-run 'big-fly' in the 5th inning and popped a two-run clout over the
fence (his 32nd of the season) in the 8th inning. Boston lit up the
scoreboard in the 5th inning with 5 runs on 3 hits, the 7th inning when they
had 4 runs on 3 hits and the 8th inning when they had 4 runs on 4 hits.
Boston had 15 hits for the afternoon.
Curt Schilling(10-10) picked up the victory, allowing 5 runs in 5 and 2/3
innings. James Shields(3-10) was charged with the loss. He struck out 7
batters in 4 and 1/3 innings despite losing the game.
'Some days it just all comes together, and this was one of them' Ramirez said.
'I've been seeing the ball pretty well lately.'
