July 6, 2006: Nationals 4 Marlins 3
Thursday, July 05, 2007
| The Nationals win their 3rd straight game and take the series 3 games to 1 with a 4-3 win over the Marlins. Livan Hernandez carries a no-hitter into the 6th inning, although there were still some signs of his normal suck. Although the no-no was broken up on Miguel Cabrera's 6th inning home run, the Marlins manage to score a run in the 4th when Hernandez issued a walk and hit 3 batters. He actually plunked in a run! Chad Cordero gets the 4 out save for his 20th on the year. He is likely to be the Nationals lone All-Star. The Nationals also got an inside the park home run for the 2nd straigh game, this time from Alfonso Soriano. |

Livan Hernandez took a no-hitter into the 6th inning at RFK STADIUM where the
Washington Nationals beat the Florida Marlins by the score of 4 to
3.
Hernandez(9-9) was in control of the game from the outset. He was stingy on
the mound, allowing just 2 hits and 2 walks in 7 and 2/3 innings. Hernandez
mowed down 9 Florida batters. The right-handed Hernandez lost his no-hit bid
when Miguel Cabrera homered with one out in the 6th inning. Florida
threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.
Chad Cordero gained credit for his 20th save. The loss was charged to Anibal
Sanchez(1-1). By giving up 4 runs in 5 and 1/3 innings his ERA increased
from 4.00 to 5.02.
'It's a disheartening loss, no question about it' said Joe Girardi 'But we
have to get over it and get ready for the next game.'
