| For the second day in a row, the Nationals go into the top of the 9th with a 4-3 lead. Yesterday, closer Chad Cordero allowed a 2 run walkoff homer to give to Marlins the 5-3 win. Today, the Nats instead get an insurance run in the top of the 9th and Cordero gets the save. The big inning for the Nats was the 6th, when Jose Guillen cleared the bases with a 3-run double. |

In a close game the Washington Nationals got by the Florida Marlins by the
score of 5 to 3.
In the 6th inning Washington scored 3 runs. The critical plate appearance was
by Jose Guillen who deflated the crowd as he doubled with all three runners
coming home. Washington won despite being out-hit by Florida 11 hits to 8.
Mike O'Connor(5-4) was the winner allowing 3 runs in 5 innings. Chad Cordero
recorded the save, his 21st. The loss was charged to Dontrelle Willis(7-9).
