July 17, 2006: Red Sox 5 Royals 2
Saturday, July 14, 2007
| This was a game where the Royals held tough against the Sox until an error and leaving the starter in too long brought them down. With 2 out in the 7th and a runner on first, David Ortiz grounds to third baseman Mark Teahen with what should have been the 3rd out. Instead, Teahen throws the ball over the first baseman's head and Ortiz goes to 2nd with the other runner advancing to 3rd. The Royals intentionally walk Manny to load the bases, but allow starter Luke Hudson to face Trot Nixon rather than going to a lefty out of the 'pen. Nixon makes them pay for it by doubling into the left field corner to clear the bases, and the 5-2 lead would hold up behind the stellar relief of Mike Timlin and Jonathan Papelbon, who got 6 outs (and 2 K's) on just 11 pitches combined. |
