June 23, 2006: Nationals 8 Orioles 6 (11)

The Nationals blow a 4 run lead in the 9th, but manage to drive across the runs needed to win the game in 11 innings. With the bases loaded and 2 out in the 9th, I brought in closer Chad Cordero to face right handed pinch hitter Jeff Conine. It does not work for the Nats, as Conine hits a grand slam home run to tie the game! The Nats strike again in the 11th though, with 4 straight hits that result in 2 runs. Cordero stays in the game, and in a bit of synergy strikes out Conine to end the game.

Second baseman Jose Vidro jacked one out of the ballyard and had 4 RBI and
John Patterson mowed down 10 Baltimore batters as the Washington Nationals
defeated the Baltimore Orioles in 11 innings by a score of 8 to 6 at Camden
Yards.

The score was knotted at 6 after nine innings. Washington won the game in the
11th inning. After an out was recorded, Damian Jackson began the rally when
he doubled. Alfonso Soriano next to the plate and he banged out a single.
Vidro then smacked a single plating a run. Jose Guillen followed and he
lined a base-hit scoring the final run of the inning. Baltimore was out-hit
by Washington, 13 hits to 7.

The win was credited to Chad Cordero(3-3) who went 2 and 1/3 innings allowing
1 run. Chris Britton(0-2) was given the loss in relief. He was knocked
around pretty good, giving up 3 runs in 2 and 1/3 innings.

With this win, Washington has a 32-43 record. They have been 6-4 lately. Sam
Perlozzo was pretty down after the loss. 'We've really been sputtering along
lately, something like 2-8 in the last week or two. That won't get it done.'
