April 7, 2006: Astros 1 Nationals 0

Man, the Nationals suck. For the 2nd time in the young 2006 season, an opposing pitcher stymies the Nationals hitters and takes a no-hitter into the late innings. This time it's Brandon Backe of the Astros, who no-hits the Nats for 6 1/3 until Ryan Zimmerman finally pokes a double through. The Nationals fail to score in the inning, however, and Zimmerman's 9th inning single ends up being the only other hit in the game. Tony Armas is the hard luck loser.

Brandon Backe took a no-hitter into the 7th inning and Craig Biggio had 2 base
hits at Minute Maid Field as the Houston Astros beat the Washington Nationals
by the count of 1 to 0.

Backe(1-0) earned his pay with a solid performance for Houston. He went 6 and
1/3 innings surrendering 1 hit and 4 walks. The right-handed Backe lost his
chance for a no-hitter when Ryan Zimmerman doubled with one out in the 7th
inning. Washington threatened in the 9th but Houston was able to put down
the rally.

Brad Lidge earned the save, his 1st. Tony Armas Jr(0-1) took the loss. He
was the victim of a defensive lapse and did not allow an earned run in the
game.
