April 3, 2006: Nationals lose opener, 8-2
Monday, March 12, 2007
| It looks like it's going to be a long season for the Nationals. The Mets put up 3 runs in the first inning off Livan Hernandez and just kept going from there. The Nationals batters did nothing to help the cause, as they failed to get a baserunner until the 6th inning and didn't get a hit until new arrival Alfonso Soriano singled to lead off the 8th. The Nationals did manage to tack on a couple runs in the 8th off a tired Tom Glavine, but the Mets got two more right back in the bottom of the 8th. The Mets' Jose Reyes starts the season off with a bang with 3 steals in the game. |

Tom Glavine carried a no-hitter into the 8th inning at Shea Stadium where the
New York (NL) Mets beat the Washington Nationals 8 to 2.
Glavine(1-0) contributed a very nicely pitched game. He surrendered only 3
hits and 1 walk in 7 and 2/3 innings. The left-handed Glavine lost his
no-hit bid when Alfonso Soriano singled with nobody out in the 8th inning.
New York (NL) out-hit Washington for the game, 13 hits to 5.
Livan Hernandez(0-1) was hit with the loss. He was touched for 8 hits and 2
walks in 4 and 1/3 innings.
